Little Engineers Nursery

Induction - Starting at the Nursery

Once you have accepted an offered place at the Nursery we start our carefully planned Induction. This is an important time when we start to get to know your child, their interests, experiences of being with others and any individual requirements they may have. This information is captured in our Unique Child forms.

Since the COVID we have changed a few methods. At this moment in time, we are only allowing staff and children into the building. This is to make sure that we keep staff, children and families safe.

The induction will take place over the phone; the keyworker of your child will call you the day before the child is due to start their settling in sessions to go over a few points with you and to answer any questions that you may have.

Settling In Period

To ensure a smooth and happy transition at Little Engineers we will have a settling period over 3 days before your child’s actual start date.

Settling in process

Day 1

We would usually require 1 parent to stay for this session and introduce your child to their new surroundings and staff while playing and encouraging them to interact with the other children. However, we will attempt to settle your child without a parent. If this does not work, then we will expect the parent who will be settling to:

 · Sanitise their hands on entry

 · Bring a facemask with them to wear while in the room

We will ask you to leave as soon as your child seems settled enough. We ask that you stay close by encase we need to call you. You will not be allowed to stay in the building to wait due to precautionary measures for COVID-19.

Day 2

We will again to attempt to settle your child without a parent.

If it is not possible 1 parent will need to sanitise their hands and put on a facemask.  If possible please step back and allow your child to explore the room independently.

We will ask you to leave as soon as your child seems settled enough. We ask that you stay close by encase we need to call you. You will not be allowed to stay in the building due to precautionary measures for COVID-19.

Day 3

We encourage the parent to drop off their child in the reception area and see whether your child will go with the staff into the Nursery room. If not we will ask if you do come to the room, that you leave shortly after.

Chosen Attendance Pattern

If your child is still unsettled after the 3 days, we may need to extend your child's settling in sessions.

Please keep in mind that your child may be upset when you drop them off as it can take up to 6-8 weeks for your child to fully settle in.

Please see the Settling in Procedure for more information and the presentation on Settling in Nursery for settlers.
