A Day in the Life at Little Engineers Nursery

Time Routine & Intention
 08:00 - 09:00

Welcoming/ Independent Learning

Parents and children are welcomed as they come into the Nursery. Parents escort their children and supervise as their child takes off their bags, hat and coats and put them on their peg. The parent and child enter the Nursery room and self-register by finding their picture and putting it in the numbered envelope on the self-registration board. The child will say their goodbyes to the parents and will take part in their own choice of activity.

 09:00 - 09:05

Welcome Song

At this time, the children will have the opportunity to greet each other and build positive relationships, while we sit and sing together.

 09:05 - 09:15

Circle Time in Key Groups -

Welcome song/ Days of the week/Weather/ Singing

Circle time encourages the use of new language. The staff introduce the children, talk about themes, books, shapes and festival of the week. We sing songs, talk about the weather and the days of the week. Children are also reminded of the room rules - no kicking or biting, indoor walking, indoor voices etc. Please click on Circle Time to see what we do.

Planned Adult Led/ Child Initiated Activities

This is a time for keyworkers to do planned activities with their key children. Short and long snapshot observations may be done at this time. 

09.50 – 09.55

Tidy Up Time

Time to tidy the toys and objects around the room to get ready for group time.

10.00- 10.15

Snack Time

Children are supervised while they go to wash their hands before snack time. If your child would like a snack they can come and sit down at the tables; snack is not forced. There will always be a water station in the room with water available to the children. During snack time staff encourage the use of early mathematics through counting, talking about sizes and language of quantity.

10:20 - 10:30

Encouraging the love of reading

Children will choose a book to read independently or they will have storytime with a group.

10:30-10:40 

Music and Movement

Children will listen to music from different cultures for 5 minutes, and be encouraged to dance. The music is varied across the year and links to long term planning.

10:45 - 10:55

Group Time

Each key person will lead structured learning based on the needs of their key groups.

 

10.55 - 11.30

Outdoor Learning (free-flow) - Children can choose whether to continue to play indoors.

Children are encouraged to put on their own outdoor clothing to get ready for outdoor learning. Activities are planned for the week. Children will have a minimum of 30 minutes to play.

11.20 - 11.30

Set up tables for lunch & make beds for sleep time

Two children are nominated to help set up the beds for rest time. The children also help set up the tables ready for lunch ensuring each child has a cup and plate.

11.30 - 12.15

Lunch Time

Lunch is sent in hot daily by Yum Yum. During lunchtime, children are encouraged to serve their own food with the support of an adult. We talk about the foods they are eating and ask children if they would like to try new foods. Children will allergens are given a different coloured plate and all staff are aware of their requirements. 

12.20 - 14.00 

Sleep/ Quiet Time or Adult-led Activities

Children in nappies are changed before sleep time. A practitioner will put the children to sleep while the other practitioners supervise the children or carry out adult-led activities with the children. At 1 pm some children leave as their session has ended, and some children are welcomed as their sessions begin at 1 pm.

14.05 - 14.10

Tea Time

Practitioners will prepare the tea in the kitchen. One practitioner will sit and supervise the children per table. Children are encouraged to serve their own food. Please and thank you should be encouraged.

16.45 - 16.55

16.55 - 17.30

Independent Learning/ Free Flow

Children can choose what activity they would like on the tables. Children's interests and incidental learning will be noted and included in the planning. 

17.30 - 17.45

Tidy up Time

Children are encouraged to tidy up through role modelling.

17.45 - 18.00

Relaxation Time/ Home Time

Calming music will be played to calm the children down and get them ready for home time.
